Terms of Service
Last updated: 17 October 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Coachers (“we”, “us”) for using coachers.ai and app.coachers.ai. By setting up or using Coachers, you agree to them; if you don’t, please don’t use Coachers. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information, including children’s.
1. What Coachers is
Coachers gives a child an AI Chinese-speaking relative. The relative writes to the child in Chinese, listens to whatever mix of Chinese and English they say back, and offers one better way to say it. The relative is an AI character, not a real person. Coachers is a place to practise Chinese, not a school, a teacher or a counsellor.
2. Who can use it
- Coachers isn’t taking new families right now. Families who joined before 17 October 2026 can keep using it.
- Coachers must be set up by a parent or legal guardian who is at least 18 and able to agree to these terms. You’re responsible for your child’s use of Coachers.
- Only set Coachers up for a child you’re the parent or legal guardian of.
- If you create a parent login, keep your password safe and your details accurate.
3. Your responsibilities as a parent
- Decide whether it suits your child. AI companions may not be suitable for every child. Keep an eye on how your child uses Coachers, and stop if it upsets them or isn’t helping.
- Explain what it is. Make sure your child understands that the relative is an AI and not a real person, and that they shouldn’t share private details such as their address, their school or passwords.
- Keep the family code private. Anyone with your six-letter family code can open your child’s side of Coachers, including the conversation.
4. AI-written messages
The relative’s messages, voice, translations and corrections are produced automatically by AI. They can be wrong, strange or unsuitable, and speech recognition can mishear your child. An automatic check screens the relative’s lines before your child sees them: it throws away a line that mocks a child’s Chinese, talks about suicide or self-harm, or is sexual. No person reviews a message first, and no check catches everything. Don’t rely on Coachers for facts, advice or anything important.
Nobody watches conversations as they happen, and Coachers is not an emergency or counselling service. If your child says something about wanting to hurt themselves, or about someone hurting them, Coachers stops the conversation and shows them a crisis line; our Safety page explains how. If your child is in danger, call 911 (in the US). If your child talks about hurting themselves, call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (in the US and Canada).
5. Acceptable use
Please don’t:
- use Coachers for anyone other than your own child;
- try to make the relative produce sexual, violent, hateful or otherwise harmful content;
- try to reach another family’s information, guess family codes, or get around limits or security;
- copy, scrape, resell or reverse-engineer Coachers, or use it to build a competing service;
- use automated tools to talk to the relative or to overload the service;
- use Coachers to break the law.
6. Plans, payments and cancellation
- The first conversation is free, with no card needed.
- To keep going, you can start a paid plan, billed monthly or yearly, at the price shown before you subscribe. A plan can start with a free trial; its length is shown before you start.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. Your plan renews automatically at the end of each period, and your card is charged, until you cancel. After a trial, the first charge happens when the trial ends unless you cancel before then.
- You can cancel at any time from the parent page, under “Manage billing”. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and you keep access until the end of the period you’ve already paid for.
- If a payment fails, the relative keeps writing for a few days so you can update your card. After that, Coachers pauses until the payment goes through.
- Our promise: if your child doesn’t say 30 sentences out loud in their first 30 days, the first month is on us. Email us and we’ll refund your first month’s payment.
- If we gave your family a founding-family code, Coachers is free for your family as described when we gave it.
- Apart from our promise and any refund the law requires, payments aren’t refundable.
- If we change our prices, we’ll tell you before the new price applies to you.
7. Your content and ours
What your child says belongs to your family. You allow us, and the companies that help us run Coachers, to store and process it only to provide Coachers, as our Privacy Policy describes. Coachers itself, including its software, design, characters and artwork, belongs to us. You may use what the relative writes for your family’s own, non-commercial use.
8. Suspension and ending
- You can stop using Coachers at any time, and ask us to delete your family’s account, as our Privacy Policy explains.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts anyone at risk, or that the law requires us to close.
- We may change Coachers or stop offering it. If we stop it entirely, we’ll give notice where we can and refund the unused part of any plan you’ve paid for in advance.
9. Disclaimers
Coachers is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we don’t promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, that it will suit a particular purpose, or that it will improve your child’s Chinese, apart from our promise in section 6.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost data or profits. Our total liability for any claim about Coachers is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and US$100. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn’t allow to be limited.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We’ll change the date at the top, and if a change is significant, we’ll tell you in Coachers or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using Coachers after a change takes effect, the new terms apply.
